eSoccer betting glossary

Formats & leagues

eSoccer

Football played on a console by real players, in official leagues you can bet on. Also written esoccer or eFootball.

ESportsBattle

The organiser behind the Esoccer Battle leagues (and eBasket, eHockey and more), with official results for every match.

2Γ—4 Β· 8 mins play

The main Esoccer Battle format: two halves of 4 minutes. 2Γ—4 stats.

Volta Β· 6 mins play

The street-football format: small teams, two halves of 3 minutes. How Volta works.

2Γ—6 Β· 12 mins play

Two halves of 6 minutes. Fewer matches a day and the highest totals. 2Γ—6 stats.

Nickname

The name a player uses. Bookies show it next to the team, like Real Madrid (Duka).

Session

The hours I post picks, always in UTC. Today's session and a countdown are on the home page.

Markets & lines

1X2 (match result)

Player 1 wins (1), draw (X) or player 2 wins (2). On a console, "home" means nothing β€” it's just the order on the coupon.

Over/under (totals)

A bet on the total goals being over or under a line, full time only. Over/under goals explained.

Line

The number a bet is measured against: 5.5 goals in a total, βˆ’1.5 in a handicap.

Whole line

A line without a half, like 5.0. If the total lands exactly on it, the bet is a push.

Asian line (quarter line)

A split line like 5/5.5: half the stake on 5.0, half on 5.5. Exactly 5 goals means half refunded and half settled.

Push

The stake comes back: neither won nor lost. Happens on whole lines when the total lands exactly on them.

Void

A cancelled bet, stake returned β€” for example a match that's postponed or never finished.

Handicap

A head start for one player, like βˆ’1.5 goals. Rare and thin in eSoccer.

BTTS (both teams to score)

Both players score at least once. In eSoccer it happens in most matches, so the price is usually short.

Pre-match / live

Before kickoff / after kickoff. My picks are pre-match: they drop 5–25 minutes before the start.

Odds & value

Decimal odds

What you get back per 1 staked, stake included: 1.90 turns 10 into 19.

Implied probability

The chance the odds suggest: 1 Γ· decimal odds. 2.00 β†’ 50%, 1.80 β†’ 55.6%.

Margin (overround)

The bookie's cut built into the odds β€” why both sides of a fair coin pay less than 2.00.

Value bet

A bet whose odds pay more than its real chance deserves. The only kind worth making.

Minimum odds

The lowest price at which a pick still has value. Below it, skip. How to read minimum odds.

Closing odds

The last price before kickoff. Regularly beating it is a good sign you take value.

Money & discipline

Bankroll

Money set aside only for betting. Rent, food and fun stay out of it.

Unit (u)

A fixed slice of your bankroll β€” 1% with me. Stakes are shown in units so everyone follows the same plan. Bankroll management.

Stake

How much you put on a bet, in units or in money.

ROI / yield

Profit divided by total staked. 100 units staked and +5 units back = 5% ROI.

Variance

The natural ups and downs of results. Loud in the short term; over hundreds of bets the edge, or the lack of one, shows.

Drawdown

The drop from a bankroll's high point to its next low. Every honest record has them.

Losing streak

Several losing bets in a row. Normal, even with value β€” the reason stakes stay small.

Tilt

Playing or betting angry after a loss. Players tilt; bettors tilt even more.
